Il progetto Tabula Rasa-Chigiana/Siena Jazz Ensemble è nato dalla volontà di creare una formazione in residence che riunisse l’esperienza dei nuovi linguaggi musicali dell’Accademia Chigiana con quella di Siena Jazz University nel campo dell’improvvisazione. L’ensemble infatti, nasce in seguito alla creazione dei corsi della sezione “New Sounds” nella Chigiana Summer Academy e in linea con la tradizione ventennale dei laboratori di tecniche dell’improvvisazione tenuti a Siena Jazz da Stefano Battaglia. Nel 2019 le due istituzioni hanno incrociato i percorsi per dar vita a un ensemble performativo stabile, combinando i migliori talenti formatisi nei corsi delle due istituzioni di formazione e alto perfezionamento musicale della città di Siena. Come per ogni progetto culturale ambizioso, l’ensemble ha l’obiettivo di unire i saperi, abbattere i confini fra i generi, gli stili, le pratiche consolidate, in un’ottica contemporanea senza negare mai la convivenza possibile di sviluppi innovativi e legami con la tradizione musicale. Dopo il debutto alla quinta edizione del Chigiana International Festival “Out of Nature” l’Ensemble Tabula Rasa, diretto dal pianista Stefano Battaglia, si sta affermando sempre di più sulla scena nazionale e internazionale e nel 2021 sta realizzando la sua prima produzione discografica.
