GENERAL INFORMATION
The Course is open to viola soloists and pre-formed chamber music ensembles, starting from trios (duos with viola and piano are also permitted).
Should the course be held exclusively online, any ensemble wishing to participate will only be accepted in the case that all of its members are able to meet in the same space (be present via one connection).
Chamber music ensembles that have been together for at least a year may take advantage of the attendance fee reductions to which they are entitled.
During the Course students may perfect pieces of their own choosing by indicating them in advance on the Application Form.
Thanks to the collaboration with Le Dimore del Quartetto, the members of the ensemble can request to stay at one of the Tuscan Historical Residences at the total cost of € 200 for each ensemble. Since the various residences are located outside the city, it is necessary to have your own means of transport available. You can submit your request to take advantage of this opportunity by filling in the appropriate space on the registration form by June 15. The granting of accommodation will be subject to the number of places available at the individual residences.
ENTRANCE EXAMINATION
The entrance examination will be held exclusively by video audition.
SOLOISTS
Candidates must present at least one piece from each of the following groups from the viola repertoire:
a) one of the Sonatas for Solo Viola by Hindemith, op. 11 no. 5 or op. 25 no. 1; one of the Suites for solo viola by M. Reger or one of the Suites by J.S. Bach transcribed from the cello part (the version of the transcription must be downloaded from the website: www.giuranna.it);
b) one Sonata or one important composition for viola and piano (for the two Sonatas op. 120 by Brahms, it is requested that students download the version found at the website: www.giuranna.it);
c) one Concerto or one concert piece for viola and orchestra (for the Concerto by F.A. Hoffmeister, the recommended edition is H.I. Grahl Frankfurt/M, which may be found on the site www.giuranna.it).
Violists performing in duos with a piano must present the same programme as soloists, substituting point c) with a composition for viola and piano.
Whomever, due to the current global health emergency, is not able to present video audition materials with an accompanying pianist, will be permitted to submit the following alternative programme:
- Two movements from one of the Sonatas for solo viola op. 11, n. 5, or op. 25 n. 1 by P. Hindemith, or two movements from one of the Suites for solo viola by M. Reger
- One of the Suites by J.S. Bach for cello transcribed for viola (Giuranna version – www.giuranna.it)
