Sara Mingardo, one of the most famous contraltos of our time with an international career, studied in her hometown with Franco Ghitti at the Venice Conservatory “B. Marcello”. She has established herself in numerous national and international competitions: she began her musical career playing the title role in La Cenerentola by G. Rossini, and won the international competition “Toti Dal Monte” in Treviso. Her recording of Anna in Les Troyens by H. Berlioz won the 2002 Gramophone Classic Music Award, the Grammy Award for Best Opera Record and the Grammy Award for Best Classical Album, and in 2009 she received the Premio Abbiati .
Her collaboration with Claudio Abbado was particularly interesting and intense. She has collaborated and collaborate with the major theaters of the world under the direction of Maestri such as R. Alessandrini, I. Bolton, R. Chailly, M.-W. Chung, P. Daniel, Sir C. Davis, O. Dantone, Sir A. Pappano, Sir J. E. Gardiner, E. Hàim, M. Minkowski, R. Muti, Sir R. Norrington, M. Pollini, C. She is a professor of Baroque singing at the National Academy of Santa Cecilia in Rome. In 2023, she joins the Accademia Chigiana as an instructor within the Chigiana-Mozarteum Baroque Program.
