Marcello Gatti completed his musical and flute studies in Perugia and early music studies in Verona. Later, under the guidance of Barthold Kuijken at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague (Netherlands), he graduated with distinction in 1997. Particularly appreciated by critics for his sensitive virtuosity, great cantabile and stylistic competence, he has given concerts all over the world, performing with Renaissance, Baroque, Classical and Romantic transverse flutes, a vast repertoire, as a soloist and within chamber and orchestral ensembles among the most renowned and specialised in the field: Ensemble Aurora, Ensemble Zefiro, Europa Galante, Accademia Bizantina, Le Concerts de Nations, Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, L’Orfeo Barock Orchester, Il Pomo d’Oro, Hofkapelle München, Cantus Cölln, Attaignant Consort, Tafelmusik, Ensemble 1700, Hofkapelle Stuttgart, Salzburger Hofmusik and many others.
He has participated in over 80 productions including audio and video recordings always with historical instruments.
Since 1998 he has enthusiastically dedicated himself to teaching and has given courses and masterclasses in numerous institutes. After teaching at the Hochschule ‘Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy’ in Leipzig and in Italy, he has been appointed professor of historical transverse flute in 2014 at the prestigious Mozarteum University in Salzburg, as well as at the summer courses of the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena and the Fondazione Italiana Musica Antica in Urbino.
