Born in Milan, Bruno Giuranna was one of the founders of “I Musici”, the “Quartetto di Roma” and the “Trio Italiano d’Archi”.
He has played with orchestras such as the Berliner Philharmoniker, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, and Teatro alla Scala in Milan under the direction of C. Abbado, H. von Karajan, Sir J. Barbirolli, S. Celibidache, C. M. Giulini and R. Muti among the most important.
His vast discography includes recordings for Philips, Deutsche Grammophon, EMI. As a violist he obtained a Grammy Award Nomination and as a conductor he won a Grand Prix du Disque from the Académie Charles Cros in Paris.
His important teaching activity extends from the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin to the Conservatorio S. Cecilia in Rome, from the Royal Academy in London to the W. Stauffer Foundation in Cremona, where he still teaches.
Deeply convinced of the importance of “playing together”, he has dedicated himself for years to the implementation of chamber music projects with young musicians in Europe and the United States. In 2020, he was elected Honorary President of ESTA – European String Teachers Association.
He returned to the Accademia Chigiana in Siena in 2004, after having taught there from 1966 to 1982.
