geringas
David Geringas, Lithuanian cellist and conductor, won the gold medal at the Tchaikovsky Competition in 1970, and offers a wide and unusual repertoire, ranging from early baroque to contemporary music.
He boasts a discography of over 100 titles, and was awarded the Diapason d’Or, the Grand Prix du Disque and the Deutschen Schallplattenkritik.
Sofia Gubaidulina, Ned Rorem, Peteris Vasks and Erkki-SvenTürr and other contemporary composers dedicate their works for cello to him. He has performed in the most prestigious musical institutions in Europe (Tonhalle Zurich, Berliner Philharmonie, Parco della Musica in Rome, Concertgebow in Amsterdam), Asia and the United States.
Some of the best young cellists working today have studied in his class, such as Gustav Rivinius, Tatiana Vassiljeva, Jin Zhao, Jens Peter Maintz, Wolfgang Emauel Schmidt, Johannes Moser and Sol Gabetta.
He has been teaching at the Accademia Chigiana since 2005.
